Fonchen Lord (1911–1993) was a remarkable abstract painter and sculptor whose creative spirit left an indelible mark on the world of art. Born in St. Louis and educated at Radcliffe, she made Lakeland, Florida her artistic home from 1954 until 1993, producing more than 270 works in Abstract Expressionism, Op Art, and Minimalism. Her groundbreaking folded metal paintings and sculptures remain a testament to her originality and vision.
